Soul to Sole

As it prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Charlotte Pearson heads to Eastbourne to find out more about one clinic.

Coloured clocks, talking toys or YouTube videos might all be common ways for people to learn how to tell the time.

However for Dana Wilshire her passion for beauty started so early her parents knew there was only one way for her to learn.
“When I was younger I used to give them foot massages and they would say when the big hand gets to there, you will get 50p,” laughs the owner of Soul to Sole health and beauty clinic based in Eastbourne.
“For as long as I can remember I have wanted to work in the beauty industry and it is something that has kept with me.”
Dana’s career saw her work at a spa and at local salons before taking the leap of faith and opening her own business in 2006.
“I wanted to do it for myself and I spoke to my parents and they were really supportive,” she reveals.
When it first opened the clinic offered what you would expect – facials, manicures and pedicures, but in recent years it has grown to include a range of other treatments, such as Hollywood lashes, CACI ultimate and 3D lipo.
However, there is one thing Dana always keeps in mind when looking at new equipment and treatments.
“The ethos is to keep things as natural as possible,” she enthuses. “What I want to do is enhance – the treatments either kickstart what the body does naturally or help to speed things up.”
Which is where the 3D Lipo comes in.
“It is non-invasive with no downtime,” she says. “It is great for getting rid of pockets of fat. It is about results and that is what I love about this job, I love the treatments that you see instant results.”
image3On the hunt for something different, Dana went to a show in London where she saw the 3D Lipo in action.
She tried it there and then and was ‘instantly impressed with the results’.
The treatment permanently rids the body of fat, although Dana says you do still have eat healthily and exercise.
“I go on holiday soon and wanted to feel more confident in my bikini so I had three treatments and lost inches around my stomach and thighs,” Dana reveals.
Another treatment which is a bit different to what other salons and clinics offer is micro blading.
“It is like semi-permanent make-up,” she says. “But it doesn’t go so deep in the skin, and looks more like individual hairs.”
To celebrate its tenth anniversary the clinic is hosting a number of different events over the next few months with demonstrations in the 3D lipo, Decleor and make-up brand Bare Escentuals.
“I came across the brand before it was in Debenhams and Boots,” recalls Dana when talking about the make-up brand. “A rep came in and left some samples.
“I needed a new foundation. I bought one from Boots but hated it so I tracked down the rep and got the brand in the salon.
image7“I feel we have grown together as not long after I got it in, it was on the high street.
“One of the events we held we did a foundation workshop, and another we asked women to bring in their make-up bags and we gave them a spring clean.”
In October there will be a number of different events throughout the month, with reps coming down from the various brands.
For Dana, her team means everything to her and she has nothing but praise for them.
Katy is the salon manager and a beauty therapist who has been working at the clinic since August 2010. She completed her NVQ level 2 at college and has numerous qualifications under her belt.
Beauty therapist Breeze first joined the salon in 2011 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge from more than ten years of experience.
Rebecca started at the salon in 2013 and Emma started a year later. Both have an extensive repertoire.

3D Lipo treatments

Commonly known as fat freezing – cryolipolysis targets specific areas of fat. The cells are cooled to -6 degrees at which point cell crystallisation occurs.
These dead cells are then flushed out of the body in the normal bodily systems over a period of weeks, no other cells are affected and normal activity can be resumed immediately after treatment. It takes about two to four months for the full result to be seen and it could remove up to 20 to 40 per cent of the targeted cells in the treated area.

Ultrasound waves break down the fat cell membrane leaving the contents to be disposed of via the body’s lymphatic system and liver. This treatment is excellent for targeting larger areas and can result in circumference loss from the first treatment session. The treatment itself is not uncomfortable and a course of treatments could lead to a loss of several inches depending on the area treated.

The Focus Fractional RF energy penetrates the skin layers to selectively heat the skin tissue and the extra cellular matrix where the collagen fibres are embedded.
The local heating causes an immediate contraction of collagen fibres, and at the same time increases the metabolism of the fibroblasts thereby accelerating the production of new collagen and elastin fibres. The concentration of collagen fibres and the regeneration of the collagen and elastin deposits tighten the skin layers creating a smoother, healthier and younger-looking skin.
A course of six to eight treatments is recommended for maximum results
Course prices on quotation during consultation, discount will be applied.
